Apparatus comprises an end-opening device (7), two rotating differentials (22, 26) positioned angularly to the plane of web pieces (2). Each differential (22, 26) has a shaft on which a pair of splaying elements (8, 9) formed by shaping bars into curvilinear shape is 10 mounted. Splaying elements (8, 8A, 9, 9A) form a three-dimensional virtual shape upon rotation. Individual layers of the bag body at its open-end portion are spread apart by guiding elements (7A, 7B) of opening device (7) near one corner to form an opening at the bottom into which one of the splaying elements is inserted. Continued rotational motion of drives ensures that both splaying elements enter the opening and gradually and continually spread apart from each other the layers of web pieces (2) at open end to form a block bottom.
