It is produced exclusively in Scotland in accordance with strictly defined traditional methods which are laid down in UK legislation, namely the UK Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009. Scotch Whisky generally comes in varying shades of gold and has a unique complexity of aromas and flavours resulting from resulting from the raw materials used and the method of its production and maturation. Scotch Whisky is recognised as having superior and distinctive characteristics derived from both naturalfactors including the geology, water, peat, and climate and human skills including that of the Distiller, the Cooper and the Blender. Scotch Whisky is therefore known throughout the world for having specific qualities and characteristics that are attributed to its geographical origin. (5) The geographical indication which is the subject matter of this application is the name Scotch whisky. (6) Espace géographique. The geographical area is Scotland which is a country located in the northern region of the United Kingdom, off the north western coastline of continental Europe. Scotland is bordered by England in the south, the sea of the Hebrides, the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. Mainland Scotland lies roughly between 55 degrees north and 60 degrees north and between 1,7 degrees west and 6 degrees west. The Shetland Islands, the most northerly part of Scotland are about 61 degrees north, and the islands of The Outer Hebrides are approximately 7 degrees west.
