From 13 to 15 May 2025 , the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) marked its presence at the prestigious 50ᵉ General Assembly of the SCAPR (International Confederation of Authors and Composers), which was held in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana.
This participation is part of the OAPI international influence strategy and testifies to its desire to anchor Africa at the heart of global debates on intellectual property and copyright management.
The OAPI delegation was led by Mr. Mondésir Oualou Panouala, deputy director general , who had the honor to present before this international assembly the vision and the achievements of the organization in matters of intellectual property.
His noted intervention highlighted the innovative OAPI strategy to make intellectual property a real lever for economic and cultural development in its 17 member states, as well as the arsenal of specific devices deployed to support the creators, inventors and artists of the African continent.
Concrete achievements at the service of African creativity
The intervention of Mr. Oualou particularly highlighted the strategic axes of OAPI's action:
? Innovation and financing
The concrete support provided to African inventors through innovative innovation financing mechanisms, making it possible to transform creative ideas into economically viable projects.
? Training and awareness
The massive commitment of OAPI in awareness and training on intellectual property, with programs adapted to local realities and the specific needs of African actors.
? Literary and artistic property
Significant advances in the field of literary and artistic property, in particular the historical adoption of the 2015 act of the Bangui Treaty and the active promotion of the collective management of copyright.
