  • OAPI, proud partner of the 1st International Penja Pepper Festival

From June 24 to 26, 2025, the city of Penja in the Moungo -Région du coitotural in Cameroon, vibrated to the rhythm of the 1st International Pepper Festival in Penja. Placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Minader), this event brought together producers, traditional leaders, scientists, investors, companies and enthusiasts around a Treasury of the Cameroonian terroir.

OAPI, an actor committed for the enhancement of local products

The OAPI had the honor of participating in this festival as an official sponsor. Our presence is part of the continuity of our commitment to the protection and valuation of geographic indications (IG) in Africa. Penja pepper, the first local product in sub -Saharan Africa to benefit from a registration in protected geographic indication (IGP) at the OAPI and in the European Union, is a strong symbol of this fight.

For several years, we have supported the group of producers in the recognition, promotion and marketing of this exceptional product.

Three days of celebration of taste and local know-how

For three days, the festival highlighted the craft and durable methods of production of Penja pepper, recognized for its four varieties (black, white, red and green) and its unique taste qualities. The event was punctuated by round tables, exhibitions, tastings, culinary demonstration and moments of sharing between actors in the sector and visitors.

We were pleased to exchange with many participants and visitors to our stand and to see the growing interest in this labeled product, a true ambassador of Cameroonian culinary heritage.

Shared pride

For the mayor of Penja, this festival devoted the city as "the capital of the best authentic pepper, of origin and quality in the world". A recognition that we greet with pride as a link that contributed to the development of this sector.

And after?

The OAPI reaffirms its commitment to support local producers and promote IGs as levers for economic development, preservation of cultural heritage and international influence.
