At the 147th annual meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) in California (USA), OAPI was present from April 17 to 21, 2025 at booth 2016 of the San Diego Convention Center.
Bringing together a multitude of participants from all corners of the world, INTA's annual meetings are opportunities to create platforms for networking, targeted training and professional development in the application of trademark law, the fight against unfair competition and counterfeiting, to promote business development.
Interviews with visitors to present the opportunities of the OAPI system
During these five days of visibility, we had the pleasure of welcoming Konstantinos Geogaras, Director General of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), to our booth. Among other visitors who spoke with our expert, Mercy Masok Asima, Head of International Cooperation, and some of our authorized representatives present with us, discussions focused on:
• The advantages of the OAPI system in ensuring legal and economic protection for trademark applicants;
• Recent reforms related to the substantive examination of trademarks;
• The classification tools to be used during registration for legal protection at OAPI and internationally;
• Advice from agents on the various IP services offered regarding support for investors and companies wishing to conquer the OAPI market.
To strengthen an ecosystem conducive to economic growth
The OAPI zone constitutes a vast market offering numerous business opportunities; in order to encourage trade and investment by promoting security in distribution channels, OAPI is continually working to improve its IP system and simplify registration procedures.
Global demographics are evolving, population needs are changing, and international trade is intensifying. In the same vein, new products and services are being created, and new brands are entering the market. It is essential to raise awareness among economic operators about intellectual property (IP) rights, particularly those related to trademarks, and to reassure consumers through trusted brands.
Following this edition in San Diego, the networking event for brand professionals will move to London, England. See you at INTA2026.
