Project to Strengthen the Plant Variety Protection System (PPOV)

Faced with food security challenges amplified by climate change and global tensions, OAPI launched the PPOV in September 2019, the result of cooperation with the European Union Commission.

This project structures the seed sector around four strategic axes:

  1. Improvement of the political, regulatory and institutional environment
  2. Development of operational structures and tools
  3. Organization of the seed industry and strengthening of the link between research and the private sector
  4. Strengthening the capacities of seed systems
Notable results after four years of activity (2018-2022):
Training of 229 experts in DUS (distinctness, uniformity and stability) testing of new plant varieties
Raising awareness among 375 stakeholders on production and marketing strategies
Upgrading of accredited technical examination centers (IRAD and ISRA)
Accreditation of two new centers (CNRA and INERA)
