Promotion of terroirs by geographic indications

Our African terroirs are full of exceptional agricultural and craft products that deserve to be valued at their fair value. The OAPI supports producers in the recording of their products in protected geographic indications (IGP) for:

Transform these local treasures into real internationally recognized labels
Significantly improve producers' income
Preserve traditional know-how

A IGP identifies a product from a specific territory, whose quality, reputation or other characteristics are essentially attributable to this geographic origin.

Review and perspectives:
8 geographic indications already recorded in 6 countries
Penja pepper (Cameroon) also recognized by the European Union
9 other products under way of labeling in 5 states
Objective: at least 2 emblematic products recorded in IGP or collective brands in each of the 17 Member States
