The African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) held its traditional New Year's greetings ceremony on January 17, 2026, bringing together all staff around the Director General, the Deputy Director General, the Financial Controller, and all non-category staff.

A moment of communion and values ​​whose human dimension strengthens team spirit, shared vision and collaboration within the Organization each year.

Looking back on 2025: achievements and challenges

The first speech was given by Deputy Director General Mondésir OUALOU PANOUAL, who was invited to present the results of the past year.

His clear and structured presentation highlighted the major achievements of the Organization, the performance of the various structures, as well as the challenges met collectively.

The assessment was welcomed by all participants, highlighting the continuity of efforts in modernization and the effectiveness of the actions undertaken.

Taking the floor in turn, Director General Denis BOHOUSSOU described 2025 as one of the "most fruitful" years for OAPI, both in the consolidation of good governance practices, advances in institutional performance, and in terms of strengthening human capital, a central pillar of organizational development.

He also stressed the importance of paying particular attention to the implementation of the strategic projects planned for 2026, calling for the mobilization of all teams, in particular

  • The continued implementation of the Invention and Innovation financing mechanism;
  • The organization of the 10th edition of the African Exhibition of Invention and Innovative Enterprise (SAIIT) which will be held in Niamey;
  • The continuation of the construction and rehabilitation of the Intellectual Property Documentation Centres (CDPI);
  • The development of the strategy for promoting medical devices in the Member States and;
  • The administrative contribution in the recruitment process of the new management team.

Mr. BOHOUSSOU finally made his New Year's wishes, wishing peace, well-being and prosperity to families, all OAPI staff and Cameroon, the Organization's host country.

Moments of recognition and conviviality

The ceremony continued with the customary presentation of gifts from the Mutual Insurance Company to the non-managerial staff. A symbolic gesture of recognition and solidarity, greatly appreciated by all.

This was followed by the individual presentation of greetings, a warm moment where each management team was able to greet the hierarchy and exchange ideas in an atmosphere of respect and cordiality.

As is tradition, a family photo concludes the formal phase of this ceremony, immortalizing this 2026 edition.

Closing with a drink

The event concluded with a convivial moment over cocktails offered for the occasion, encouraging informal exchanges and strengthening ties between colleagues.

A year 2026 marked by commitment and performance

Through this ceremony, OAPI reaffirms its ambition and determination to pursue, with all its staff and affiliated structures in member states, the implementation of its mission to serve intellectual property in Africa. The coming months promise to be resolutely focused on consolidating achievements, innovation, and excellence.
