Abidjan, Ivory Coast, July 20, 2026 – The 4th edition of the African training dedicated to the development and promotion of geographical indications, called Africa GI Training, has officially begun for 18 auditors from representative groups of products registered as Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) as well as National Liaison Structures (NLS) with OAPI from 13 of its member states.
Spanning approximately ten days, the session concludes on July 29, 2026, and combines theoretical instruction, practical workshops, and a field visit. Its aim is to equip participants with the skills necessary for identifying, protecting, managing, and promoting local products, ultimately fostering a concrete approach to the challenges associated with Geographical Indications (GIs).
Through this initiative, participants will acquire the necessary skills to support the development of geographical indications in their respective countries and contribute to the promotion of local know-how, the preservation of cultural heritage and the improvement of the competitiveness of African products on national, regional and international markets.
Africa GI Training is part of the dynamic of promoting GI in the OAPI area, as a tool for economic and local development for the benefit of producers and local communities.
