  • Equatorial Guinea: OAPI and OEPM support the development of the national intellectual property policy

As part of the 2026-2027 work plan signed between the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), a joint mission aimed at supporting Equatorial Guinea in defining its strategic vision in intellectual property was held in Malabo.

A mission dedicated to strengthening the national intellectual property system

This initiative is part of a support approach whose goal is to provide the country with a coherent reference framework for the promotion, protection and enhancement of intellectual property assets in the service of economic development and innovation.

Technical exchanges with key national players

For three days, experts from both offices conducted training sessions, institutional meetings and technical consultations with those from the Scientific and Technical Research Council (CICTE), as well as with representatives of public administrations, institutions and research centers.

Stakeholders were thus supported in formulating their national IP policy and key players in innovation, research and development benefited from capacity building.

This series of activities made it possible to gather participants' expectations, identify priorities and increase their knowledge in the strategic use of IP.

International cooperation in the service of development

The approach with the OEPM illustrates the OAPI's dynamic cooperation in support of the development of national intellectual property systems in its member states.

Through this technical assistance, the Organization ensures effective coordination between the strategic orientations defined by States and the programs it implements in order to make IP a lever for value creation, competitiveness and sustainable economic transformation.

Towards a structuring national intellectual property policy

The support provided in Equatorial Guinea marks an important step in the process of developing a national IP policy tailored to the country's realities and ambitions. It also demonstrates the partners' commitment to promoting an innovation ecosystem capable of stimulating research, entrepreneurship, and technological development for the benefit of the population.
