From May 2nd to 6th, 2026, the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) participated in the prestigious annual meeting of the International Trademarks Association (INTA), held this year in London, United Kingdom. The Organization reaffirmed its position as an essential strategic partner for economic actors seeking to establish themselves in the African market.
A leading global event
Held annually in a major global city, the INTA Annual Meeting brings together thousands of intellectual property and trademark professionals: patent offices, agents, technology companies, specialist lawyers, and many other stakeholders from around the world. This year, ExCeL London hosted this important event, providing an exceptional setting for networking, business, and staying informed about developments in trademark protection and management—both traditional and non-traditional.
The OAPI delegation: two ambassadors for a territory of 17 countries
The OAPI was represented by two officials: Mr. Moustapha Ramadan Nlend and Ms. Sidonie Fouda. Through a stand decorated in the Organization's colours, the delegation deployed a communication and institutional marketing strategy built around two fundamental messages.
- To affirm OAPI's strategic positioning as the single gateway to a market of more than 200 million consumers spread across 17 member states.
- Invite foreign investors and companies to seize the opportunities in the OAPI territory, relying on the solid legal framework offered by the revised Bangui Agreement — in particular its strengthened provisions on combating counterfeiting and illicit trade.
A proven reputation, an image of seriousness and professionalism
Through meetings and discussions at the exhibition booths, it became clear that the OAPI system enjoys considerable renown among foreign applicants, who recognize it as a serious, reliable, and highly professional institution. This observation represents a valuable asset for the development of international filings and the strengthening of partnerships.
A collective effort with approved agents
The delegation benefited from the invaluable support of the OAPI authorized representatives present at this annual meeting, who played an active role in promoting the system and establishing new business contacts. This synergy between the Organization and its network of authorized representatives illustrates the collective strength of the OAPI system on the international stage.
OAPI's participation in the INTA Annual Meeting 2026 confirms the Organization's commitment to positioning itself as a major and recognized player in the global intellectual property system, serving the economic development of its member states.
